Every election year, the Sonoma State University Library celebrates our democratic right to vote through a series of events, lectures, exhibits, and displays. Have a look at our past events and get excited for our upcoming elections.


The University Art Gallery hosted Agents of Change: Art as Activism from August 16 through November 8th.

September 13: Voter Registration and Art Party

4:00 to 6:00 p.m. at the University Library Gallery. Come meet the artists exhibiting in Agents of Change: Art as Activism and register to vote with the Sonoma County Registrar. Eat some cake and celebrate our right to vote and voice dissent.

September 19: Constitution Day Discussion

Speakers Eric Williams, Criminology and Criminal Justice, and Richard Hertz, Political Science, moderated by the Political Science Department, discuss, "Is the Constitution Under Attack?"

September 25: Green Party's Candidate for President, Dr. Jill Stein

1:00 to 2:00 p.m. at Evert B. Person Theater

October 2: An Unlikely Monument: The History of Sonoma State University's Vietname Veterans' Memorial Grove

5:00 p.m in Schulz 3001. Presented by James Bleifus and sponsored by the SSU History Department.

October 3: Taxes and the Economy

Panel by the School of Business and Economic looks at the economy and taxes in this election cycle, and how it impacts you.

October 3: Prop 30 Information and Voter Registration Event

5:30 - 7:00 p.m. at the Cooperage

October 10: Gender, Race, and Class in 2012 Elections

Is there a war on women? Is this election abotu class? Does race play a factor? A panel sponsored by the Women and Gender Studies Department helps answer these questions.

October 17: Deciphering the Ballot

In addition to the Presidential election there are many important California initiatives on the ballot. Students from POLS 484 will shed light on the most important issues.

November 7: Post-Election Wrap Up: So What Just Happened and Why?

Join Professor David McCuan as he moderates a panel of distinguished Sonoma County politicos: Dr. Rubin Armiñana, SSU President, Paul Gullixson and Jim Sweeney of the Press Democrat, Gabe Meline of The Bohemian, and Caroline Banuelos of the Santa Rosa City Council.


November 3: Midterm Elections Post-Election Analysis

Noon in Schulz 3001. Panel discussion with Dr. Rubin Armiñana, SSU President, David McCuan and Cynthia Boaz of the Department of Political Science, and the Editorial Staff of the Press Democrat.
