Jennifer Orchard

Blond woman

What is your favorite book, eBook, DVD, or music score?

My favorite book series is probably The Curvy Girl Club by Kelsie Stelting or The Infernal Devices by Cassandra Clare.

Why did you choose this item to share with the library?

I chose these items to share because one is fantasy galore that includes romance and many twists and turns so you are able to get lost and understand how reading can truly allow you an escape from your world; while the other is teen/young adult romances with women who don't fit the social standard of beauty and it displays moving past your insecurities and learning to believe in who you are and love yourself which I think everyone needs to do in life. Both these series changed and impacted my life in amazing ways, and I want to share the great things they can do with others.

What is your major?

I am an English major with a concentration in Literature. I transferred from a community college in my hometown with an AA-T and am excited for my next step in life after I obtain my BA degree.

What was the most memorable/useful thing about working in the library?

The most memorable thing about working in the library is the people you meet and the community you get to be a part of. I have made some good friends that I hope to speak to after graduation and I cannot thank the library enough for that. I also gained so much support from my supervising staff and it is truly such an encouraging and comforting place to be, I will miss them all greatly.

What advice would you give to incoming SSU (e.g., freshman) students?

Just try your best in every class you take and all your endeavors, don't put yourself down if you cannot complete something on time or if you get a bad grade. These things happen and it is OKAY, you will still accomplish amazing things. Always communicate with your professor because they can become your biggest allies, which seems unlikely but is very true. Try not to take everything so seriously and it isn't a failure if you have to drop a course, I can guarantee that almost everyone has. You're going to do great, and I believe in you, so you have to believe in yourself too!

What is next for you?

I am not entirely sure, but I am hoping to obtain a job at a publishing house and learn the inner workings of the writing world. Maybe I will accomplish my dream of being an author, you never know but I believe in myself, and I know my next journey is going to be an amazing adventure that I will never forget!

Thank you, Sonoma State, and everyone here for helping shape the woman I have become, I will miss you! I promise to try to visit the library, at least, because that is where I found a family!
