Symphoni Barbee

What is your favorite book, eBook, DVD, or music score?

My favorite book throughout college has been "Assata: An Autobiography"

Why did you choose this item to share with the library?

This book has one of my favorite mantras that I repeat often:

“It is our duty to fight for our freedom. It is our duty to win. We must love and protect one another. We have nothing to lose but our chains."

This mantra helps me remember what my purpose is and the importance of community.

This book has greatly impacted my personal development throughout undergrad and was the first book I read that detailed the story of women in Black liberation movements in America.

What is your major?

Political Science

What was the most memorable/useful thing about working in the library?

The most useful part of working in the library was working in an environment where I can focus on my academics and gain professional skills.

What advice would you give to incoming SSU students?

I would advise incoming freshmen to use every resource Sonoma State has to offer. There are people here who genuinely want to see you succeed.

What is next for you?

I will be taking a year off to prepare for graduate studies for either a Master's program or a Law Degree.  In the meantime, I will be catching up with family and friends in my hometown of Sacramento.
