Missals Display Highlights Religious Texts

Visit the University Library's latest Special Collections display: Missals, religious texts from which Catholic priests read as they led mass. Among the treasures are Missale Romanum and Missae defunctorum ex missali romano desumptae, accedit ritus absolutionis pro defunctis ex rituali romano, with individual rubrications, or notes, written in red in the margins. Rubrication provides instruction on how sections are supposed to be read and when. Be sure to work "rubrication" into your next conversation.

The illustrations alone are worth the ascent to the third floor!

Make an appointment to view these missals, or any of our Special Collections materials, through our online request form.
