April is National Poetry Month!


Have you always wanted to know what trochaic tetrameter means? Looking for works by a specific poet? The library has many items available through the catalog, including books of poetry, literary criticism, author biographies, and more! We also have several databases in which to search for your poems and poets of choice. Resources for SSU students, faculty, and staff include: Literature Online (PQ) English and American literature library of over 330,000 works of English and American poetry, drama, and prose, plus biographies, bibliographies and key secondary sources, including criticism. Contemporary Authors Provides biographical and bibliographical information on more than 120,000 U.S. and international authors. Companion database to Contemporary Literary Criticism—Select and Dictionary of Literary Biography. African Writers Series (PQ) Includes the full-text of 359 titles key texts of modern African writing, from the Heinemann print series, which began publication in 1962. Contemporary Literary Criticism Critical essays on contemporary authors, with biographical, critical, principal works, and further study information. Includes published criticism on the works of creative writers now living or who died after 1959. Note: this database is a subset of the print version of CLC. Humanities International Complete (EBSCO) Provides indexing and abstracting for over 1,900 titles with coverage back to 1925, including citations and abstracts for articles, essays and reviews, as well as original creative works including poems, fiction, photographs, paintings and illustrations.
