Where to check out items
- Books & Reserves
- Take books you wish to borrow to the Circulation & Reserves Desk near the second floor entrance.
- You can also check out reserve items, ILS and LINK+ books, some regional items, oversize books, theses, government documents, ARS items and calculators.

- The Multimedia Center on the second floor (south) is the place to go to check out library media materials, including: media reserve items, videos, DVDs, CD-ROMs, CDs, laptops, and more.

How to get a Library card & check out items
- Your SSU student I.D. is your library card. Bring it to the Circulation Desk, along with the items you wish to check out, and we will set up your library user account.
- You can obtain your SSU ID card at Customer Services in Salazar Hall.
- If you do not have your SSU ID, you may use another form of picture ID, if you are able to also provide the last four digits of your social security number.
- If you are not a current SSU student, faculty, staff, emeritus, CSU student (with a valid university I.D. indicating current status), or CRPUSD Tech High School student you may become a Community Borrower.
- Please report any change of address, or the loss or theft of your library card immediately to the Circulation Desk.
- Your library card is not transferable to another person. You are responsible for all items checked out on your card.
- Be aware of return dates. The books are stamped with the due date, but you may also view My Library Record via the Snoopy Library Catalog to verify when an item is due.
How long is the loan period
- Books:
- Students and community borrowers-- 28 days.
- Faculty, staff and classified grads--1 semester
- Faculty are subject to the same fines as other borrowers, and there is no grace period.
- Books are subject to recall after 28 days.
- Reserve materials
- 2 hrs, 1 day, 3 days or 7 days. The instructor sets loan period.
- Media materials:
- Audiocassettes, cds (compact discs), cd roms, dvd roms, phonos, slides, media manuals, portable microfiche reader - 1 week
- DVDs, videocassettes, videodiscs (laserdiscs) - 3 days for students, 7 days for faculty/staff
- Headphones, media remote controllers- 4 hours (some restrictions apply)
- Laptops - 2 hours (some restrictions apply; ask at Multimedia Desk)
- Media reserve items - generally 2 hours (may range up to 3 days)
- LINK+ materials:
- 21 days
- One renewal of 14 days is possible if requested before the original due date.

How to get items from the ARS (Automated Retrieval System)
- What is the ARS?
- Request items listed in the Snoopy catalog with the location of "ARS" by clicking on "Click to Request"
button and entering your last name. - Pick up the item at the Circulation Desk 15-20 minutes after placing your request. It will be held at the Circulation Desk under the name by which you requested it.
- You may examine the ARS item in-house, but if you wish to take it out of the building you will need to check it out at the Circulation Desk.
- Some items, such as journals, are in-house use only and may not be checked out.
- Return all ARS items to the Circulation Desk.
- You may view the ARS from the third floor viewing area in the Preshelving Room.
Fines & replacements
Where to return library materials
Books
- Return to book drops at the Circulation Desk on the second floor, or
- Book drops outside the first floor entrance, or
- Book drop at the second floor entrance.
Reserve (print) materials
- Must be returned to the reserve return drop at the Circulation Desk on the second floor.
- When the library is closed, return reserve materials to the outside book drop at the top of the ramp at the second floor entrance.
Media items - including media reserves
- Return media items (including media reserves) directly to the second floor Multimedia Center.
- When the library is closed, return media materials to the outside book drop marked "Media Return" in front of the first floor entrance.
Materials returned when the library is closed will not be checked in until the library next opens.
Checking your library record
- View My Library Record from the home page or Snoopy library catalog to see:
- what items you have checked out, including LINK+
- renew items, including LINK+
- see if you have any items on hold,
- see if you have unpaid fines.
- You will need your library card and Library PIN.
How to Renew Items
- Reserve materials may not be renewed.
- Bring books to be renewed, along with your library card, to the Circulation Desk on the second floor.
- Books and multimedia items may be renewed once online through the view My Library Record in the Snoopy library catalog.
- You will need your barcode number from your library card, and a library PIN.
- Click on the box that lists the number of items you have checked out
- Choose which items to renew.
- Renewal due date is 28 days for books, 3 days for visual format, 7 days for audio format from the date of renewal. Multimedia computer hardware may not be renewed.
- Items on Hold for another user may not be renewed.
- Items may be renewed once.
- If your total amount of unpaid fines is over $10, you will need to come to the Circulation Desk on the second floor to pay the fine before you may renew the items.
- Renewals cannot be done by phone or SSU email account.
Placing holds
- Holds may be placed for items that are checked out:
- Look up the title in the Snoopy catalog to see if the book is checked out.
- Click on the "Place a Hold" button in the top menu.
- You will need your barcode number from your library card, and Library PIN.
- You may also place a hold at the Circulation Desk (for books) or the Multimedia Desk (for media items).
- The book will be held for you when it is returned, and you will be notified via SSU email account.
- Consider requesting the items through Link+ if you are a current SSU student, faculty or staff member.
Recall notices
- Books needed for reserve, or books that you have had for more than 28 days and are requested by another patron, are subject to immediate recall.
- Please bring the items back immediately so you do not incur fines.
- The recall date replaces the original due date.
- Recall noticed will only be sent to your Seawolf webmail address.
Lost and Found
- The Circulation Desk is also home for Lost and Found items
Flash Drives, CD-Rs, and Transparencies
- Purchase Flash Drives ($15) and CD-Rs ($1) at the Circulation Desk. For questions about using these and other portable storage media & devices, visit the Information Commons Help Desk on the first floor of the library.
- CD-RWs and DVD-RWs can be purchased at the SSU Bookstore.
- Transparencies can be purchased and copied at the Circulation Desk for .70 each. This includes the cost of the transparency and the copy. We cannot copy onto your personal transparency stock (which can damage our copiers).
