Lost/Damaged library books and media

Pay the replacement and processing fees and the library will replace the item.

  1. Visit the Circulation Desk to pay your fees.
  2. The replacement fee varies, dependent on format. Generally books are $50. Circulation staff can tell you the replacement fee.
  3. The processing fee is $10. Make check payable to “SSU”. We only accept cash and checks.
  4. Once you have paid all your library fees, you will be eligible for library services again.

Replace the book or media item yourself and pay only the processing fee.

  2. The processing fee is $10. Make check payable to “SSU”. We only accept cash and checks.
  3. The library will accept used books that meet these conditions:
    1. binding and pages are in excellent condition
    2. no missing pages, highlighting, stains, mildewing or mold
  4. The library prefers hardbacks, but you may replace a hardback with a paperback, with prior approval from the Head of Collections.
  5. Suggestions for locating new books/media or used books:
    1. Local bookstores such as: North Light Books in Cotati (new & used), Copperfield’s in Sebastopol and Santa Rosa, Barnes & Noble in Santa Rosa.
    2. Amazon for new books, videos and dvds: http://www.amazon.com/. Find used books in the section labeled “More Buying Choices” at the right side of the webpage.
    3. Bookfinder http://www.bookfinder.com/ for used books.
    4. Alibris http://www.alibris.com/ for used books.
    5. Deep Discount DVD http://www.deepdiscountdvd.com/ for new dvds.
  6. The library will not accept used copies of videos and dvds. Exceptions made only for rare or out of print items.
  7. You must replace the item within 3 months once you have been billed, unless you have made arrangements with the Head of Collections.
  8. Bring your replacement book to the Circulation Desk. Bring your replacement video to the Multimedia Desk.
  9. After the Head of Collections or Circulation/Multimedia staff has approved your replacement and you have paid all your library fees, you will be eligible for library services again.
