The Sonoma State University Library and Extended Education Program were awarded a grant in 1983 from the National Endowment for the Humanities for the Indochinese Cultures Project, which focused on the diverse peoples and cultures of Cambodia, Laos, and Vietnam. The original project organized five conferences in Northern California and built a photograph collection.
The collection contains 101 color photographs taken by Eric Crystal, with accompanying text and three examples of textiles, and is a composite of project work with the Hmong and Mien Hill people in Merced and Khmer, Khmu, Laotian and Vietnamese people in northern California. It also includes conference materials. The collection consists of 23 boxes of material.
The research material in the collection is available to view by appointment.
