Janelle Monáe’s Dirty Computer – an emotion picture.
Why did you choose this item to share with the library?
Not only is the music bangin but the storyline explores concepts of queer identity through black feminist thought and Afrofuturism. Also like, it’s Janelle Monáe. I first listened to the album but I hadn’t seen the film. When I watched the film in my queer theory class about a year ago, I instantly fell in love with it.

Most memorable/useful thing about working in the library?
Working in the administrative office was great because I loved getting to talk about cats with Bonnie, Alyssa, and Karen. Also, just working in the library, you learn what is going on around campus because of all the conversations that happen.
Advice for incoming SSU (e.g., freshman) students
There will probably be times you have no clue what is going on and there won’t be answers available. Get comfortable with the fact that you may have to create your own solutions and understandings.
What is next for you?
I’m going to continue making lots of art while I look for a job in the area, then maybe go back to school to get my MFA in a few years.
