Press Democrat Empire Living Collection

Man caring a tray of champagne, woman is adding dressing to a salad.

Background

The Press Democrat Empire Living Collection consists of feature articles written under various titles (Howdy Neighbor, Redwood Empire Magazine, Empire Farms Magazine, Empire Living and Medley Magazine) between 1948 and 1977 that cover a wide range of topics, but with an emphasis on cultural affairs and agricultural activities occurring throughout the Redwood Empire (Humboldt, Lake, Marin, Mendocino, Napa and Sonoma Counties) and in a few cases San Francisco and Solano counties. The bulk of the articles were written by Milby R. (Mike) Pardee and Bob Wells and many include graphics created by H. Douglas Bundock, who worked for the Press Democrat as a staff artist between 1950 and 1960. Carolyn Lund was the editor of Medley Magazine.
