Borrow Equipment
We make technology and equipment available to loan, so you can experiment, create videos and podcasts, watch DVDs, and more.
Most technology and equipment is only available to current SSU students, faculty, and staff. Loan periods, overdue fines, and replacement costs vary. Please make sure you understand the terms and potential costs of lost or damaged items before borrowing equipment.
Media Kits
Check out a Media Kit to create videos, audio recordings, podcasts, and more. Each media kit contains:
- a handheld HD video camera
- an external camera microphone
- a desktop microphone
- a gooseneck tabletop webcam
- a flexible mount tripod
Media kits can be checked out for seven days. There is a $5 per day overdue fine. If a checked out kit is more than 30 days overdue, it will be marked as lost and a Lost Item Replacement Fee of $500 will be charged. Lost Item Replacement Fees are refunded when borrowed items are returned. Overdue fines are NOT refunded.
DVD/CD Drives
Check out a DVD drive to watch DVDs or listen to CDs on your laptop or desktop computer. DVD drives plug into a USB-A outlet; if you need an adapter for USB-C, we check those out, too.
CD/DVD drives will play most CDs, but will not play Blu-Ray discs.
Drives can be borrowed for 1 day. There is a $5 per day overdue fine. If a checked out drive is more than 30 days overdue, it will be marked as lost and a Lost Item Replacement Fee of $50 will be charged. Lost Item Replacement Fees are refunded when items are returned. Overdue fines are NOT refunded.
Headphones
We loan two types of headphones: noise-canceling headphones and headsets with built-in microphones.
Headphones can be checked out for four hours. There are no overdue fines, but headphones that are more than one day overdue will be charged a $20 Lost Item Replacement Fee. Lost Item Replacement Fees are refunded once items are returned.
Scientific Calculators
Scientific calculators can be borrowed for seven days. A $5 per day fine is charged for overdue items. After more than 30 days overdue, a $50 replacement fee will be charged. Lost Item Replacement Fees are refunded when items are returned. Overdue fines are NOT refunded.
Universal Phone Chargers
Need to charge your phone or tablet? Check out a universal phone charger for four hours. There are no overdue fines, but chargers more than five days overdue will be charged a $50 replacement fee. Lost Item Replacement Fees are refunded once items are returned.
White Board Markers
You can borrow a White Board Marker Kit for use in the library. Kits include four markers and an eraser and can be borrowed for four hours. There are no overdue fines. If a kit if more than one day overdue, a $20 Lost Item Replacement Fee will be charged, which will be refunded once it is returned.
