Makerspace Equipment

Much of the equipment in the Makerspace was purchased through funding provided by a National Science Foundation Grant.

Please read our Makerspace Policies before using the equipment in the Makerspace. 

3D Printers

Machines that build objects layer by layer from plastic filament, allowing you to turn digital designs into real-world items like models, tools, and custom parts. You can create your own designs or download designs from an open-source design repository.

Cut and Carve Devices

Cut-and-carve devices allow you to carve objects out of many different kinds of materials. Choosing the right device for your project will depend on the size and type of project you're making. You can create all kinds of objects including jewelry, game pieces, circuit boards, puzzles, toys, plaques and signs, frames, and more.

The Bantam Tools PCB milling machine is a precision cutting and carving machine used to shape and engrave materials like metal, plastic, and circuit boards. It uses specialized cutting bits to carve designs with high accuracy, making it ideal for detailed and technical projects. Designs are created digitally and then milled into the material.

Carvey CNC Machine

The Carvey is a desktop CNC machine that uses rotating cutting bits to precisely cut and engrave materials like wood, plastic, and soft metals. It can handle materials up to 0.9″ thick, making it ideal for creating detailed and durable projects. Designs are created digitally and then carved by the machine with high accuracy.

With the Carvey, you can create:

The Cricut Maker 4 is an easy-to-use cutting machine that lets you create a wide range of custom projects. It precisely cuts materials like paper, vinyl, and fabric, making it ideal for everything from simple crafts to more detailed designs. You can design your project digitally and the machine will cut and score the materials for you, allowing you to assemble professional-looking results.

With the Cricut Maker 4, you can create:

The USCutter is a cutting machine used to create designs from adhesive vinyl and heat transfer vinyl. It precisely cuts your digital designs, allowing you to apply them to surfaces or fabrics. This makes it a great tool for customizing items, creating signage, and producing clean, professional-looking graphics.

Button Maker

Button maker has a black base, and a red handle.

A tool for creating custom pin-back buttons by pressing together printed designs and metal parts—perfect for events, clubs, and creative projects.

With a button maker, you can create: 

  • Custom pins for clubs and organizations

Grommet Puncher

A grommet puncher is a tool used to add metal rings (grommets) to materials like fabric, paper, vinyl, or leather. It punches a hole and secures the grommet in place, reinforcing the material and preventing tearing. This makes it especially useful for projects that need to be hung, tied, or handled frequently.

With a grommet puncher, you can create and reinforce projects such as:

  • Banners and hanging signs
  •  Tote bags and fabric projects
  • Posters and display materials 
  • Tarps and outdoor covers 
  • Drawstring bags and pouches
  •  Curtains or fabric panels 
  • Keychains or tag-style items 
  • Any project that needs strong, durable holes

Heat Press

A heat press uses heat and pressure to transfer designs onto materials like fabric and vinyl. In our Makerspace, different sizes of heat presses allow you to work on everything from small items and detailed projects to larger designs on t-shirts, tote bags, and more.

Soldering Station

A soldering tool used to join wires and electronic components by melting metal (solder) with a heated tip. The adjustable temperature makes it suitable for everything from delicate electronics to small DIY repairs.

You can create and repair a variety of electronic and small DIY projects, including:

  • Simple LED circuits
  • Arduino and microcontroller projects
  • Repairing broken wires or headphones
  • Building small electronic kits
  • Custom button batteries or light-up wearables
  • Prototyping circuits on breadboards and transferring them to soldered boards

Workbench

This workbench is equipped with a variety of hand tools to support building, repairing, and prototyping projects. You can use saws to cut wood or other materials to size, sandpaper to smooth rough edges and prepare surfaces, and screwdrivers to assemble or take apart components. Pliers are useful for gripping, bending, and cutting wire or small materials, while the drill allows you to create holes or drive screws quickly and efficiently. Together, these tools provide everything you need to measure, cut, shape, and assemble your project safely and accurately.

Sewing Machines

The Makerspace includes a dedicated room for sewing and other textile crafts. We have six sewing machines and two embroidery machines, along with all the tools you need to get started. You will want to bring your own patterns and fabric, as usually only scrap fabrics are available. You may also want to bring your own thread to ensure that it will match your project.

Virtual Reality

Our virtual reality (VR) headsets let you explore immersive 3D environments for gaming, design, and interactive experiences. Using motion tracking and handheld controllers, you can move, build, and interact inside virtual worlds. VR is great for creative projects, simulations, and exploring new technologies.
