Course Reserves
You can place library materials or your own materials on Course Reserve. Please allow three business days to process Reserve requests. Please don't assign Reserve items before we have had time to process them.
We will remove all materials from Reserves at the end of the specified term, and return personal copies to you.
If you'd like to place student papers on Reserve, you must get written permission from the student before posting. Please use the Student Consent Form. If you would like us to purchase an item to be placed on reserve, please use the Suggest a Purchase form. We can't purchase every requested item, but will add materials when it is possible.
Electronic Reserves
We encourage you to use library e-resources in your classes. Please link to articles, e-books, and chapters rather than posting PDFs. Linking to library e-resources ensures that use of the materials is counted, and we rely on usage data when making decisions about what to purchase and what to cancel.
If you plan to use library e-resources in your classes, it's a good idea to verify each semester that the materials are still available. Publishers and e-resource providers regularly remove titles from subscribed collections and content licenses expire. If you are concerned that something you want to use will not be available, please contact the Collection Development Librarian as soon as possible to discuss options.
Please be aware that not all books and videos are available for library electronic licensing. Many publishers, especially textbook publishers, do not make electronic copies available for libraries to purchase. Some video distributors also do not allow libraries to provide streaming access. Talking with us early will give us time to investigate what is available.
To place materials on Reserve:
- Place items on Reserve (Seawolf ID required)
- If you have more than 5 items, please submit an additional form.
- Bring all books, articles, and media to the Information/Checkout Desk. If you are putting library materials on Reserve, library staff will retrieve the materials for you. You must include a call number for any library materials.
- Copies of articles will be placed in packets titled Readings and given the course name and number (e.g., SOCI 301: Readings).
- Up to three copies of each article will be placed in folders with the same call number.
- Please be sure to bring in all the copies you'd like on Reserve.
- Keep back-up copies of all articles.
- You can decide on the loan period for Reserve items. Consider the number of students who will need to access the material. For larger classes, you might consider a shorter loan period. If an item is already on Reserve by another instructor, you must use the already established loan period.
- Print items can be loaned for 2 hours or 1 day.
- Media items can be loaned for 4 hours or 1 day.
