So Much More Than Books
Discover What You Can Do in the Library
When you think of the library, books may be the first thing that comes to mind. And yes, we have plenty of those. But the library is also a place to create, collaborate, experiment, solve problems, get help, and find the kind of space you need to do your best work.
Whether you are just starting your first semester or embarking on your senior year, here are some of the many ways you can make the library part of your college experience.
Create Something
Have a project that goes beyond a traditional paper? The library has the tools and technologies to help you turn your ideas into something real.
In our Media Production Studios, you can record video, audio, presentations, interviews, podcasts, and other media projects. If you want to make something with your hands, visit the Makerspace, where you can explore creative technologies, experiment with new tools, and build skills along the way.
You do not have to arrive as an expert. These spaces are here for learning, trying things out, and discovering what you can do. We have support available to guide you, so don't hesitate to come by and see what is available.
Find Your Study Spot
Everyone studies differently, and sometimes even the same person needs a different kind of space from one day to the next.
Working with a group? Reserve one of our study rooms for a group project or zoom session. Need to concentrate on your own? Find a quieter place to settle in. If you need an extra quiet environment, check out the Quiet Study Room on the third floor. Prefer a more active environment where you can spread out, talk, and work alongside other students? We have spaces for that, too.
Throughout the library you will find a wide variety of study areas for individual work, collaboration, focused reading, and everything in between. Explore a little and find the spot that works best for you.
Get the Things You Need for Class
College comes with enough expenses already. The library can help.
You can borrow a laptop when you need a computer for class or coursework, and free printing makes it easier to print assignments, articles, notes, and other materials without worrying about the cost. Forgot your phone charger? Borrow one from the library and make sure you can stay connected.
The library also provides access to course materials for many classes. Before purchasing everything on your reading list, check to see what may already be available through the library.
Get Unstuck
Research can be exciting, but it can also be overwhelming, especially when you are staring at thousands of search results and wondering where to begin.
That is where our research help services come in. Librarians can help you choose a topic, find reliable sources, develop better search strategies, track down hard-to-find information, and figure out what to try next when your research is not going the way you expected.
You do not need to have a perfectly formed question before asking for help. Sometimes figuring out the question is part of the process.
Make the Library Your Own
The library is not just a place to visit when you need a book. It can be your workspace between classes, your meeting place for a group project, your production studio, your technology backup plan, your creative workshop, or the place where someone helps you finally find the source you've been searching for.
College is a time to explore new ideas, learn new skills, and discover what you are capable of doing. The library is here to help you do all of that. Come in, look around, try something new, and see what you discover. There is so much more here than books.
