From the late nineteenth century and into the mid-twentieth century, a race barrier prevented talented black athletes from playing in professional white baseball leagues. In response, they formed their own teams and eventually their own leagues, touring the country, drawing crowds, and making history.

Discover Greatness: An Illustrated History of the Negro Baseball Leagues explores the rich world of African-American baseball history. Discover Greatnesstells the story of the pride and perseverance of famous and popular baseball players, and of America's dark past of racial segregation.
