Sonoma County Preservation Project
Background
Photographs, slides, and student papers from the Sonoma State University History department in the 1970s record the history of regional structures and thus the history of the communities around them. The majority of the material was recorded by students enrolled in the History Department’s Historic Preservation Program. Although it focuses on buildings of Sonoma County, the collection also includes some examples from Marin and Mendocino counties and miscellaneous structures of the wider San Francisco Bay Area. In addition to providing an inventory of local architecture, the student papers also cover many North Bay social issues, such as Chinese exclusion, and include some biographical sketches of significant local personalities.
Collection
The collection was donated to the library at an unknown time, presumably by History Department professor Peter Mellini. The photographs, slides, and student papers are organized in a total of ten boxes.
Access
The research material in the collection is available to view by appointment.
