Sonoma County Women’s Oral History Collection
Background
The Sonoma County Women’s Oral History Collection, dating from 1970-2008, contains interviews, typed transcripts, annual reports, magazines, exhibition materials, and ephemera relating to the history and development of the women’s movement in Sonoma County.
The material was originally collected by the students of Sonoma State University history professor Michelle Jolly in 2007 as part of a class project and for the creation of an exhibition titled “A Fine and Long Tradition,” which was on display in the Sonoma State University Library in 2007. The collection was donated to the Library in 2018 by Michelle Jolly and Emilie Roy.
Collection
The materials are organized into 8 boxes. Boxes 1-3 are CDs or cassettes of student oral history interviews with Sonoma County women who took part in the history and development of the women’s movement in the county. These boxes also contain transcripts of the interviews, as well as copies of annual reports of the Commission on the Status of Women. Boxes 4-5 contain materials from the 2007 exhibition. Boxes 6-7 contain historical research material on the women’s movement. Box 8 has ephemera and there is also a large fabric banner in the ephemera collection.
