Borrow a Laptop
Macbook laptops are available for current students, faculty, and staff to borrow. Laptops are available on a first-come, first-served basis; no reservations or holds will be accepted.
Please read all policies and terms thoroughly before checking out a laptop. You are responsible for any equipment you borrow from the library.
The library reserves the right to deny checkout privileges to any patron for any reason. Failure to follow policies when borrowing a laptop will result in loss of borrowing privileges.
You agree to return the laptop and all associated equipment in the same condition as when it was received. If any equipment is damaged or lost while on loan, you agree to pay the Lost Item Replacement Fee(s) and any overdue fines associated with your loan.
Personal software may not be installed on library laptops. The available software list shows what is installed on the laptops. No user files will be retained on the hard drive once laptops are returned.
Loan Periods and Renewals
Laptops are available for four-hour loans or for semester-long loans. Semester-long loans will be due the Friday following the last day of finals, no matter when the laptop is checked out.
Four-hour laptops may be renewed when there is no one waiting. Laptop renewals must be done in person at the Information/Checkout Desk. We cannot renew laptops by phone or online.
Semester-long loans cannot be renewed.
Fines and Fees
- Overdue fines of $1/hour for four-hour loans and $5/day for semester-long loans will be added to your account if a laptop is not returned on time.
- Overdue fines are NOT waived when items are returned.
- There is a one-hour grace period for four-hour loans. There is no grace period for semester-long loans. Please return items promptly so they can be used by other patrons and to avoid accruing overdue fines.
Library laptops should always be returned to the Information/Checkout Desk to ensure they are received and checked in. Any library equipment returned to a book drop may not be checked in on time and overdue fines may be charged. You are responsible for ensuring that items are returned to the library by the date and time they are due.

You will be charged a $1,000 Lost Item Replacement Fee for any four-hour laptop that is more than 5 days overdue, and for any semester-long laptop that is more than 30 days overdue. Lost Item Replacement Fees will be removed from your account when items are returned.
